What happens during adolescent care appointments?

During adolescent care appointments at Astoria Pediatric PC, a friendly provider greets your teen and completes the following:

Vital signs check

A pediatric specialist evaluates your child’s weight, body mass index (BMI), pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs during their vital signs check.

Medical history review

They also review your child’s family and personal medical history, lifestyle habits, possible symptoms, and medications or dietary supplements they might take. 

Physical exam

Your child’s specialist completes a physical exam to assess your teen’s overall health and wellness. They evaluate their breathing, heartbeat, eyes, ears, throat, reflexes, and more. They also offer pelvic exams, if necessary, for teenage girls and patients up to age 26.

Diagnostic testing

If needed, the Astoria Pediatric PC specialists offer vision screenings, hearing screenings, blood tests, urine tests, lung-function testing, heart-function tests, X-rays, and other imaging procedures to diagnose medical problems and establish the best treatment plan.

When should I schedule adolescent care visits?

Unless otherwise instructed by your teen’s provider, schedule adolescent care visits once yearly or anytime they need a sports or school physical. You can also book an appointment if you have concerns about your teenager’s physical or mental health, if they become ill, or if they get injured.
